The third in the Mountain Word Science series
A Christian homeschool Physics unit, influenced by the old UK Salter-Horner Physics syllabus.
As part of our work on producing homeschool physical science textbooks for older teenagers, this is the first of our physics units. The units are designed to support the work of the Mountain Word Academy with homeschooling families, co-operatives, and consortia.
This unit textbook on sound and music addresses the use of sounds in the Bible. The unit works as an way of illustrating sound waves, using vibrating strings, and vibrating air in hollow tubes; i.e. string and wind instruments.
The author acknowledges the influence of the old English physics curriculum, known as Salter-Horner Physics. This use and process led course, while designed for a secular audience, seems inherently appropriate for a biblically-based science education series.
The author, Paul F. Taylor, BSc MEd, is the Director of the Mount St Helens Creation Center, in Washington state, USA. He has a long experience in education, having spent nearly 20 years in government schools in the UK teaching science and technology. He is the author of Where Birds Eat Horses and Web Development 101 – two previous homeschool courses. Paul is married to Geri. Between them they have five children and four grandchildren.
